Castration not an exclusively European issue

The European pork sector agreed to the Brussels Declaration in 2010 and has agreed to make efforts to develop alternatives to piglet castration by 2018. However, the castration issue is not a purely European affair. For instance, the chairman of the Japan Animal Welfare Initiative recently visited the Netherlands. He was informed about the results of the Dutch research programme by its leader Gé Backus. During a visit to her pig farm, Annechien ten Have explained boar management.
Incidentally, pig farmers in South Africa stopped castration and transitioned to raising boars years ago. www.pigbusiness.nl/ondernemen/buitenland/nieuws/137/betere-proportionering-nodig -in-zuid-afrika
